Almost all my life I have been working for Boot & Co nurseries in Boskoop. This village is well known for its ornamental trees, shrubs, roses and hardy perennials all over the world. That offered the opportunity to acquaint myself with a lot of interesting plants, and people as well.
In the eighties I started breeding roses, weigelas, hydrangeas and many other ornamentals as part of my job.
In 2003 I began hybridizing Hemerocallis, just for my own pleasure. In eight years I did a lot of reading, surfing on the internet, visiting people and importing plants from the USA. In my nursery I acted like a bee, a plantsman, and selected a few hundred nice plants out of many thousands of seedlings. This year I spent my time doing nothing but evaluating what I have done so far. The results are some nice look-alikes of what already exists, but well suited to our climate. In the next few years I hope to create something special, in order to find my own direction.
My private garden "Bridge View Gardens" is bird friendly and poison free. I gather a lot of special plants, not because they are rare but only for their long period of beauty over the year. When a plant flowers two times a year, carries fruits and has a nice autumn color or is wintergreen, it's my choice.
Next year I hope to make a simple new updated website. Until then you are welcome to visit Bridge View Gardens where there are more garden and seedling photos.
