My name is Kathy Krattli and I was born and raised in Hawaii but have lived here in O’Fallon, Missouri most of my adult life. Many think I’m crazy for moving away, but I love the seasons here. Hawaii is beautiful and a great place to visit, but I don’t want to live there. I don’t remember ever not having a garden, even as a child, I always had my own little garden somewhere. I’m definitely an outdoors person and also enjoy wildflowers and bird-watching. I am married to my husband, Dan, and have three grown sons and seven grandchildren. Unfortunately, none share my passion for gardening. Where did I go wrong?
I retired in 2000 and suddenly had the time to really take gardening seriously. I started hybridizing in 2001 and find this very addictive and stimulating. There is nothing like the anticipation of what you might develop. In the photo I'm standing next to my most thrilling surprise of this past summer. I kept watching the 4 scapes get taller and taller and wondering when they would stop! I was so thrilled with the sturdy scapes and the candelabra branching. This will definitely be a "future". It even has gorgeous blooms! This seedling was "supposed" to bloom for the first time the summer of 2010, but the extra wait was well worth it!
I am a member of the Greater St. Louis Daylily Society and presently serve as club reporter for Region 11's "The MOKANOK Daylily." I also have the job of keeping track of the members that win the 4 attendance prize certificates at each of our regular meetings; when and what cultivar they purchase; and when they bring the increase back for the club to auction off.
