"Welcome to Harrells Hardy Plants"

spacerWe are two sisters Liz and Kate who inherited a passion for gardening from our late Mother who gardened into her nineties. We have always gardened, fitting it in around raising families, caring for our dogs and full-time careers, Kate as a teacher, Liz as a nurse.

spacerIn 2000 an acre of farmland near both our homes became available and we set about developing it into our idea of a piece of garden heaven - on a scale that our small personal gardens could not match. After a couple of years it became evident that our new garden was occupying more and more of our time so we decided to retire from the "day jobs". Gardening beats nursing and teaching hands down!!

spacer Since retiring we have continued to develop the garden in stages with no overall plan, like Topsy it "just growed". We developed one or two new beds each year until, a few years ago we finally ran out of space.

spacer Now each year we refresh and replant several beds at a time which display our current plant passions, and so regular visitors will always find something new and interesting to see. Reflecting these expanding plant interests we are members of the Royal Horticultural Society, the British Hosta & Hemerocallis Society and the Cottage Garden Society.

spacerRunning parallel with our emerging gardening careers we became media stars for a short period! A television production company followed us for twelve months to document our career changes and the garden development. This resulted in an hour long television programme which lead on to appearances in several other TV garden shows.

spacerEach year from May to August we open our garden to visitors for the National Garden Scheme, for local charities and to garden groups, local, regional and international. We thoroughly enjoy these visits giving us an opportunity to talk gardens and plants and to share our passion with fellow enthusiasts, so if you are in our area or are planning a visit do contact us.

spacerN.B. For daylily and perennial plant enthusiasts who are also "culture buffs" we are only twelve miles from Stratford-upon-Avon!!
