photo five

A neatly rounded specimen clump of Baptisia 'Purple Smoke' makes a splash in the farthest north backyard terraced bed. On the left is Mary's grandmother's lavender bearded iris. The iris dates back to the 1920s or earlier, and Mary's grandmother did not keep track of its name. Aquilegia flabellata (fan columbine) is blooming in the background.
