Don grew up in Vancouver, BC and came from Grandparents who were florists. With an interest mostly in houseplants growing up, interest came to outside plants when Don and his partner moved to Ontario and began renovating houses that also needed landscaping. Don's twin brother David loved gardening and had huge gardens and knew all of the plant names and even the latin names! When David passed away in 1995, all that knowledge and information was passed to Don magically and his interest took off!

By then Don had moved to the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Zone 6a and began his hybridizing journey with daylilies in 2000, after finding a Daylily called 'Canadian Border Patrol' at a local garden centre and was totally intrigued by the eye and edge it had. He got on the internet and the whole world of daylilies and hybridizing opened up a new interest.

He met online another enthusiast Coral Kincaid who was nearby and encouraged him to learn more and go to some of the ODS conventions with her..he was 'hooked'.. In 2003, Don won the Douglas Lycette Award for his 'Lassy Kisses' and in 2005, Don and Coral went to Florida for Mecca and met many well known hybridizers and saw their newest seedlings and intros..Don continues to be inspired by other Hybridizers such as Karol Emmerich, Jamie Gossard and others. To date, Don has 24 registered plants and enjoying a quiet rural life in Beautiful Nova Scotia.
