I saw this shrub in a gardening magazine many years ago and just had to have it. It is called Callicarpa bodinieri var. giraldii 'Profusion'. All summer it is just an ordinary shrub with a very long name and suddenly in autumn it comes to life with a mass of purple berries. I have noted that the berries are the last ones the birds eat and only then if they are desperate in a very cold winter. There are normally plenty left for my Xmas front door wreath which I always make using bits from my own garden.
