"HARMON HILL FARM"

spacerWelcome to the daylily gardens of Carl and Marlene Harmon, also known as Harmon Hill Farm. We began collecting daylilies in 1998 and like many others became addicted to collecting daylilies. We live on 13 acres in southern New Hampshire in a house we built ourselves back in 1992 with the help of Marlene’s family. In 1998 I was introduced to Charlotte and her daylily sites and she encouraged me to join the email robin. Once joining the robin Carl became a trading fool in the semi-annual Trademarts and acquired a large number of awesome daylilies but more importantly we got to know lots of fellow traders. We became a selling garden in 2001 and currently have about 3,500 different cultivars growing here with over 2 acres of primarily daylily gardens.

Carl & Marlene Harmon

spacerWhile Carl does most of the actual gardening, Marlene is the photographer and does all the computer related work. In fact as we started to write this overview last night we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary and have made a great team both in life and in daylilies.

spacerDuring the summer of 2008 we were honored to have been chosen to be one of the AHS Region 4 tour gardens. Over in our selling area we have built several hybridizer beds to display the works of various northern hybridizers such as Melanie Mason, Darlyn Wilkinson, Ron Valente, Bob Sobek, Mike Huben, Steve Moldovan, Roy Woodhall, Phil Reilly, Don Herr, Dan Bachman, George Doorakian , Don Marvin, Charles Douglas, Lori Jones, Mike Maher and my original mentor Dan Matzek. While we grow a great deal of southern bred plants we try to display as many Region 4 and other northern hybridized plants as possible. For the last 5 summers Bill Chambers has grown all of his daylily acquisitions in our garden and in these four large beds you will see approximately 700 of the latest and greatest new cultivars available.

spacerManaging the selling garden has become in effect a second full time job for most of the year and there is no time for any significant hybridizing. Carl had the immense privilege of meeting and working with Steve Moldovan and Roy Woodhall in Ohio for the three years prior to Steve’s passing and along with Bill we grow virtually all of Steve and Roy’s recent intros. As I was a collector of Steve’s plants from the very beginning in 1998 we have well over 100-150 Moldovan daylilies on display. In our Ron Valente bed we have every plant that Ron introduced as well as few others that he had given garden names to and which have subsequently been introduced by Rod Kroemer and Jim Weursch.

spacer We are honored to have been selected by Dan Matzek, Mike Huben and Mike Maher to introduce their new plants. As we both have full time non gardening jobs we could not get by especially during peak bloom season without the help of many good friends such as Bill Chambers, Mike and Julie Maher, Jay and Terri Lafond, Adele Keohan, Cameron Stern and Paul and Lisa Bourret and others.

spacerOur webpage can be viewed at harmonhillfarm.com, and our peak bloom is normally the third week of July and all are invited to stop by and visit during daylily season. We can be contacted at: harmonhill25@comcast.net. We hope you enjoy the photo previews of our gardens below. Come on Spring.
